Dale Jay Wasserman – Obituary

Dale Jay Wasserman, 81, of Owens Cross Roads, Al passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at a local hospital. Dale was born March 24, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Ralph J. Wasserman and Rosemary Wasserman Gelvan. He graduated from Coral Gables High School, FL and the Northrup Institute of Technology, Los Angeles, CA. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Nasa, Marshal Space Flight Center, Al after a 32-year career. After retirement he worked for several years for Durham School Services as a bus driver. He was a past president of Temple B’nai Sholom also serving as a board member for a number of years. He was a member of Helion Lodge No. 1; former member of Scottish Rite, Cahaba Shrine Temple and Experimental Aircraft Association. He loved flying, riding motorcycles, cruises, and especially his family. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol Phillippe Wasserman; 4 sons: Jeff Wasserman (Darlene), Sammamish, WA; Shawn Whitson (Lisa), Paint Rock Valley, AL; Kevin Whitson (fiance’ Delorie Davis), Lacey Springs, AL; and Michael Whitson (Karen) of Meridianville, AL, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and his brother, Norman Gelvan (Gail) of Miami, FL and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Temple B’nai Sholom with Rabbi Elizabeth Behar officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the General Fund of Temple B’nai Sholom.
