Daisy Maria Elisa Sanchez was born November 23 1934 in Cienfuegos, Cuba and married December 8, 1957 in La Havana, Cuba to Manuel Francisco Correa.

After the communist takeover of Cuba, the regime notified Manuel he was going to be conscripted into the military and Daisy was going to teach in the indoctrination camps. In order to evade imprisonment for non-compliance, they fled with only their two small children and a suitcase of clothes to New York City in September 1961. Daisy worked initially for United Airlines and then for Jamaica Hospital, Queens. In 1972 they moved to Clewiston, Florida where Daisy earned her US teacher certification and taught elementary school in South Bay and later, in Miami. After losing her husband in 1987, she began traveling the world, visiting Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia and New Zealand. In her later years she lived with her oldest daughter and son-in-law in Guam, Colorado and Alabama.

Affectionately known to everyone as “Abi,” she is survived by her children Elena Gresham (Glenn), Manuel A. Correa (Tina), and Christina Normand (Jim) and 7 grandchildren: Katie Davidson (Mike), Jacob Gresham (Merissa), Andrew Gresham, Ana Courson (Ethan), Ethan Gresham (Ayla), Manuel F. Correa and Olivia Vega. Everyone who met Abi loved her – particularly small children, who would gravitate towards her natural love of life and desire to share her world with them.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Grace Fellowship PCA, 925 W. Main St, Albertville, AL. 35950
