Curtis Lee Allen, age 79, passed away October 22, 2023, at his home.
He was born and reared at Gilmer, TX the son of the late Lee Henry and Ona Mae Wheeler Allen. He graduated from high school in Texas and entered the U.S. Navy in 1963 and served 26 years.
Curtis served on several aircraft carriers. While in the service he received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and six Good Conduct Awards. His unit received two Meritorious Unit Commendations. He was also a recipient of the Navy Expeditionary (Bronze Star), three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and two Humanitarian Service Medals. After his retirement from the Navy he married Leah Baker in 1991 and they made their home in Memphis when he worked for the postal service. He retired from the postal service in 2009 and they moved to Jacks Creek.
He enjoyed working with wood and building things. He also took joy in helping neighbors get on their feet and establish lives.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Allen; son, Michael Allen (Angela) of Germantown; two brothers, Billy Allen of Big Sandy, TX and Johnny Allen of Bay City, TX; sister, Darlene Cabron of Tyler, TX; and three grandchildren, Ashton, Hallie, and Laney Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ray Allen and sister, Betty Allen.
Memorial services will take place at a later date in Big Sandy, TX.
