CULLMAN- A $150,000 grant awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will help put a Cullman County trucking company on the move, creating up to 25 new jobs in the process.
Funding from the Community Development Block Grant will provide sewer services necessary for James R. Smith Trucking Co. Inc. to relocate to a different site within the city of Good Hope.
“This project will assist an Alabama company, in business for nearly 60 years, to expand and provide new jobs,” Bentley said. “Upgrading public services for the company’s new site may also encourage other businesses to expand or locate in Good Hope.”
James R. Smith Trucking, which began in 1955, provides trucking services throughout the United States. The company employs 41 people and also hires many independent truck drivers to deliver freight.
The company plans to move its business to an 18-acre site not far from its present location off
Interstate 65. The new location will enable the company to offer additional services including truck maintenance and sales of trucks and trailers.
Bentley notified Mayor Corey Harbison of the grant’s approval. Local funding of $166,530 has been pledged for the
