Cowles “Pete” Horton III – Obituary

cowlesThe graveside service for Cowles “Pete” Horton III, age 66, will be Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at 5 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery, with Ronald Williams officiating.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, from 3:30-5 p.m.at McConnell Memorial Chapel. Anyone who wants to speak during the memorial service can. Come prepared to share memories.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, 2-3:30 p.m., at McConnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Horton passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1949, in Colbert County, Alabama, to Cowles Horton Jr., who was from Granada, Mississippi, and started Muscle Shoals Rubber Company in Sheffield, producing baseball centers for most of the NBA. His son, “Pete,” eventually took over the business when it was moved to Mississippi. His mother, Louise Hatch Horton, who was a longtime resident of Sheffield, Alabama, was from Maine and died in Batesville, Mississippi.
Mr. Horton was a retired business owner of Muscle Shoals Rubber Company in Batesville, Mississippi. He was a volunteer fireman, member of Jaycees and alderman for the city of Batesville. He graduated from Sheffield High in 1968 and graduated from Christian Brothers College.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Kenneth Horton.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Williams Horton, of Huntsville, Alabama; two sons, Cowles Horton IV, of Batesville, Mississippi, and Sam Horton, of Huntsville, Alabama; two stepsons, Paul Albert Brown, of Brenham, Texas, and John Ency Brown, of Lexington, South Carolina; one sister, Susan Horton Gray and husband, James, of Dunwoody, Georgia; three grandchildren, Paige and Katie Horton, of Batesville, Mississippi, and Michael Harris of Kansas City, Missouri; and stepgrandchildren, Jayden, Grayson and Amelia Brown, of Brenham, Texas, and Hilary and Lily Brown, of Lexington, South Carolina.
Pallbearers will be Cowles Horton IV, Sam Horton, Paul A Brown, Mike Roberts, Terry Williams and Galen Terry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Batesville Firefighters.
