MONTGOMERY-Data as of Tuesday, April 8 unveils a startling number of COVID-19 are African American in Alabama with roughly a fourth of Alabama population being black.
The Alabama Department of Public Health released demographic data Tuesday on confirmed infections and deaths. Of the 39 verified deaths in the state, 17 were in African American patients and 17 were white. The remaining five were Asian or unknown.
There are still deaths attributed to COVID-19 that have yet to be confirmed by the Alabama Public Health Department. These deaths are showing less racial disparities with whites representing nearly half of these cases while blacks were about a third of these cases.
As of 4:30 on Tuesday, April 8 there have been 2,472 cases of COVID-19 reported with 18,982 tested and 67 deaths reported with 48 of those deaths confirmed. 314 Alabamians are hospitalized with COVID-19.
