Costa Jeanette Franklin – Obituary

Mrs. Costa Jeanette Franklin, 91, passed from this life on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at North MS Medical Center following a long fruitful life. She was born November 24, 1926, in Nettleton, MS, to Jack and Mattie Lou Williams Harris. Jeanette worked at Indian Creek Manufacturing for 30 years retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement Jeanette kept children in her home including a dear young man, Rex Brown. She was gentle and hard working. She was a Christian lady who allowed her Bible to be her guide with her favorite Bible verse being Philippians 4:13. She was a charter member of Carnation Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and enjoyed all the activities there. She was famous for her coconut and pineapple cakes. She enjoyed gardening, cooking with her friends, flowers – especially roses, reading, gospel music, and Harris reunions. The most important thing to her in this life was her family. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her, especially her close relationships with her nieces, Kathleen Burnett-Chaffin, Jean Farley, and Linda Harris.
A celebration of her life and homegoing will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Carnation Baptist Church in Okolona with Rev. Jason Franklin and Rev. Dwain Ard officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Amory. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to service time at the church. Survivors include her two sons, James P. Franklin (Brenda Kay) of Tupelo, and Jerry W. Franklin (Janet) of Brandon; 5 grandchildren, Kristi Wright (Tony), Keith Franklin (Lisa), Rev. Jason Franklin (Leslie), Jeri Lynn Rushing (Jeremy), and Jody Franklin; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other near relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, James C. Franklin who died May 22, 1984; 5 brothers, Jesse Harris, Curtis Harris, Jack Grady Harris, Lynn Harris, and Billy Harris; four sisters, Mae Harris, Geraldine Mills, Mary Lou Harris Long, and Pearl Jackson.

Pallbearers will be Keith Franklin, Jody Franklin, Justin Wright, Jacob Wright, Cohen Franklin, and Keith Franklin, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews as well as Jerry Hall and Robert Culpepper.
