Surrounded by her family, Corene Montgomery Hudson, 92, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Aug. 17, at her residence, the Griffis House at Traceway in Tupelo.
She was born July 21, 1922, in Belmont, to Posey and Canzady Wigginton Montgomery.
She was the widow of the Rev. Grady Hudson, whom she married in September 1960. Together they reared six children. After 35 happy years of marriage, they were parted by Grady’s death in 1995.
A woman of great faith and a quintessential Southern lady, Corene worked alongside her husband as they served United Methodist churches in Tishomingo, Walnut, Philadelphia, Lambert, Tchula, Caledonia and Guntown, as well as in Sulligent, Alabama. She was an excellent example of the virtuous woman, loving and caring for not only her husband and children, but for friends and community members. She was well known for her delicious cooking and accomplished sewing and was loved by all who knew her.
Services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Belmont, with Corene’s grandnephew, the Rev. Oliver Box, of Washington, D.C., officiating, and Kathy Box, Corene’s niece, delivering the eulogy. Private burial will be at Old Bethel United Methodist Church, also in Belmont.
In addition to her husband and parents, Corene was preceded in death by her sons, Harold Hudson and Kenneth Hudson.
Family members who remain to cherish her memory are her daughters, Charlene Riggs and her husband, Bobby, of Tuscumbia, Alabama; Merilla Hudson Haydock, and her husband, John, of Tupelo; sons, Don Hudson, of Jasper, Alabama; and Conrad Collier, of Nashville, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces, Kathy Box and Deborah Herndon, both of Aberdeen; Donna Kay Bradshaw, of Fort Payne, Alabama; Dinah Sneed, of Senatobia; and Karen Comer, of Tupelo.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time at Deaton Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Montgomery, James Comer, Doyle Moore, Steve Montgomery, Frank Herndon, Jeremy Herndon and Jimmy Box.
