Coolidge Hill Sparks, age 87, of Tuscumbia, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013. His family will receive friends today, noon-2 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia, and his funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Ed White and Gerald Pennington officiating.
Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Sparks was a veteran of WWII. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from TVA and was a member of Littleville Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jeanette Sparks; his parents, Riley and Esther Denton Sparks; sister, Clois Cothren; and brothers, Hollis, Vincent, L.N. and Edwin Sparks. He served on the Spring Valley Water Board and was instrumental in the development of the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department. He taught over two hundred Singing Schools and led congregational singings for many years.
Survivors include his son, C. H. Sparks (Lynn); daughter, Esther Blanche Sparks; brother, Leslie Sparks; sister, Martha Shelton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Tony Jones, Stanley Skipworth, Curtis Harrison, Johnnie Garrett, Harold Kimbrough and Danny Woods.
