IMG_6918 copyFLORENCE – Percy Sledge put Muscle Shoals on the map. Discovered by Quin Ivy in 1965, the one-time orderly at Shoals Hospital in Sheffield brought the world “When A Man Loves A Woman”, “Take Time To Know Her”, “Warm and Tender Love”, and many, many more songs that changed the world.

Percy has performed in The Shoals many times since those days at Norala Studio on 2nd Street in Sheffield and then down at Broadway Sound. In all his travels around the world, Percy never forgot his roots.

This week, David Johnson and a large number of friends and admirers of Percy’s staged a benefit show, who is suffering a serious disease. The room was packed. The music was breath taking. It was a thing to behold.

The Quad-Cities Daily was there to record the evening in EVENT PHOTOS and we present them here. Look closely… There are some iconic members of the music community here who came to wish Percy Sledge well.
