Conard Lavert “Red” Isbell, 87, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at his home in Madison, Alabama following his illness with Leukemia.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Mary Elizabeth Lewis Isbell; his children, Brenda Isbell Martin (Michael Martin), Alvin Lee Isbell (Kay Askew Isbell), Martha Isbell Smith (Nathan Smith), Stephen Foster Isbell, and Walter Carl Isbell (Ann Thompson Isbell); 11 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; two living brothers, Theo Isbell (86) and Dephra Isbell (90); and many close friends.
Born and raised in Spring Valley, Alabama, the son of Alvin Keller Isbell and Effie Lonnie Isbell; he was a long time resident of Madison.
In his early years, Mr. Isbell worked as a woodcarver in Montgomery, Alabama. He met his wife, Mary Elizabeth Lewis, and they were married in 1947. After the children started arriving, he worked as a brick mason, truck driver, and ended his working career as a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Isbell was a fun loving Christian family man who taught his children many life lessons through his strong work ethic, selfless giving and friendships. He had an infectious laugh and loved playing games, fishing, and woodworking as hobbies.
Mr. Isbell was a member of the Greenbrier Church of Christ.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Jan. 21st, starting at noon at Madison Chapel Funeral Home, 8521 Hwy 72 West, Madison, AL. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Mr. Isbell will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, 901-1099 Blanton Street, Tuscumbia, AL after a short graveside service.
