Harried paleontologist David Huxley (Cary Grant) has to make a good impression on society matron Mrs. Random (May Robson), who is considering donating one million dollars to his museum. On the day before his wedding, Huxley meets Mrs. Random’s high-spirited young niece, Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn), a madcap adventuress who immediately falls for the straitlaced scientist. The ever-growing chaos — including a missing dinosaur bone and a pet leopard — threatens to swallow him whole.
The series — sponsored by the library and Pillar of Fire — is hosted by film historian and Pillar of Fire founder Terry Pace and his wife, Anita. Admission is free. For details, call the library at 256-764-6564 or Pillar of Fire at 256-366-4512.

Documentary Screening and Discussion: The Return
Sponsored by Project Say Something
Tuesday, July 12, 6:00 pm
Join Project Say Something and FLPL for a screening and discussion of the documentaryThe Return.
In 2012, California amended its “Three Strikes” law — one of the harshest criminal sentencing policies in the country. The passage of Prop. 36 marked the first time in U.S. history that citizens voted to shorten sentences of those currently incarcerated. Within days, the reintegration of thousands of “lifers” was underway. The Return examines this unprecedented reform through the eyes of those on the front lines — prisoners suddenly freed, families turned upside down, reentry providers helping navigate complex transitions and attorneys and judges wrestling with an untested law. At a moment of reckoning on mass incarceration, what can California’s experiment teach the nation? The Return is an official selection for the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.
