SHEFFIELD– The Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation will hold its fall meeting on Sunday, November 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Old Grace Church (venue) located at 700 N. Montgomery Ave., Sheffield. Members, guests and the public are invited.  Refreshments will be served.

Vicki and Gary Dean have lovingly and creatively restored the former Grace Episcopal Church to its former glory!  Several years ago, the church, which was established in 1901, was endangered.  Its north wall was leaning precariously toward the neighboring house.  Efforts by the Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation were instrumental in staving off demolition.  Fundraising was held and measures were taken toward restoration but a discouraging engineering evaluation led to the CCHLF relinquishing the restoration project.

Vicki and Gary Dean acquired the property in 2015, when it was one of the 10 most “dangerous” buildings in the State. Utilizing innovative bracing they were able to have the structure stabilized. Today the beautiful church has been rehabilitated to provide a stunning venue for weddings, concerts and other events.

The Deans will graciously treat those who attend to a tour of the facility and will share the details of the restoration and the history of “Old Grace.”

Following the meeting, guests will be invited to visit Belle Mont Mansion, 1569 Cook Lane, Tuscumbia, to view the exhibition of oil lamps from the collection of Mary Carton. She will be present to provide information about the lamps, which span years from the mid-nineteenth century through mid- twentieth century.

The Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation seeks to preserve structures and sites that are important to the history of the county. Meetings are held quarterly and membership is open.   For more information: 256-710-9081
