COLBERT COUNTY– The Colbert County High School Band was selected to participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the attacks at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 2021.  Of course to be selected is a great honor, but CCHS is a rural high school in Leighton, AL, and most of the students come from low-income families with limited resources.  Band Director Logan Pouncey  explained that to travel to Pearl Harbor to represent our community and our state, he estimates a goal of $120,000 will need to be raised.  Fortunately, a generous local donor has offered a gift of $50,000 in matching funds, which cuts goal almost in half.  But, to receive this gift the band must raise $40,000 by May 30th.
If this trip is successful, we will send these students, who have earned this honor through their hard work and dedication, to participate in the commemoration of an event where thousands of Americans lost their lives while defending our country and the freedoms we enjoy.  Students lives will be changed forever by this experience, and they will be an example to their fellow classmates, and young people across our state.  Their participation will serve as a helpful reminder of the sacrifices that have been necessary to keep us free.
