COLBERT COUNTY-Colbert County High School FFA Teacher Jeff McKinney accepted the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development (AARC&D) Council’s 2015 Youth Involvement Award at the 2016 AARC&D State Meeting hosted in Birmingham.

Colbert County High School FFA Teacher Jeff McKinney partnered with the Northwest AL RC&D to complete the FY15 Eco Cold Storage Trailers Project. The RC&D bought the supplies and materials to build Eco Cold Storage Trailers, which will be used to transport produce from farms to markets to increase the shelf-life of the products. McKinney took on the building phase of the Eco Cold Storage Trailer Project, and he taught his FFA students how to build a trailer, then let them work on the trailers themselves. The students successfully built three trailers under McKinney’s supervision.

Colbert County Superintendent Gale Satchel and Colbert County High School Principal Satchel were in Birmingham to represent Colbert County while McKinney accepted his award. Northwest Alabama RC&D Chairman Roger Hayes and Executive Director Charlie Meek were also present.
