Clifford Horace Sims passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, ending a life of 106 years and 4 months of illustrious service to his Lord, his fellow man and his community. He was born October 18, 1912 to W.R. and Suzie Sims in the Dancey’s Chapel/Caddo section of Eastern Lawrence County. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Gay Sims, and a daughter Margaret Sims Ward. He is survived by his son T. Wayne Sims (Jane), St Augustine, Florida, and a blended family of six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren. Clifford saw and participated in amazing changes during his 106 years of life. From his early days of growing up on the farm, to his immersion in the automotive machinery and mechanics business and his first career in the trucking industry, to his second career and his first and really true love, the Ministry. With his very dedicated wife Mildred by his side he served in Decatur, Birmingham, Nashville, Little Rock, Rouse’s Point and Watertown, NY, Fayetteville, TN, Eighty-Eight, KY and Trinity, AL. Wherever they lived, they were involved in a local congregation of the Church of Christ, and if there was not one, he would start one. After he attended David Lipscomb University, where he enrolled after he was 50 years old, he preached part time until he was forced to retire from the trucking industry because of age in the 1970’s. He then served as Minister of Churches of Christ in Fayetteville, TN and Trinity, AL. Clifford was instrumental in establishing the South Decatur Church of Christ, later becoming the Somerville Road Church. He was a longtime member of the Danville Road Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder until he resigned at 104. He saw the world change for better and for worse, but he remained steadfast and will long be remembered and loved as a “Good Christian Man” by all who knew him. Memorial Service is at Roselawn Funeral Home , Friday at 11:00AM, Visitation from 10:00-11:00.
