After his retirement from the service in 1969, Joe and his wife, Janet, started a successful home construction business in Tacoma, WA. Later in Olympia, WA, they expanded the business to include commercial real estate. Joe’s passion projects included the private elementary school DuLaney Construction built in Lacey, WA and as a member of the volunteer group, Lakefair Capitalarians, Joe built a parade float that won several statewide awards for creativity and lighting. In 1989 Joe moved his family back to Fulton where they built their home and retired.
