Cleveland “Cliff” Dykes

Cleveland “Cliff” Dykes passed away at his home on August 17, 2024. Cliff was born on March 4, 1928 in Slocomb, Alabama to parents James and Vera Mae Dykes. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bessie P. Dykes, brother Frank Dykes and sister Geraldine Baxley. Cliff is survived by his brother Charles Dykes (Amy), stepson JA Phillips (Kim), grandchildren Erin Lundquist (Brandon) and Jamie Hyde (Joe), many nieces and nephews and two great grandsons.

Cliff served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War in 1951 and 1952. After returning from Korea, he began work in the restaurant equipment business and became a very successful businessman. He opened Dykes Restaurant Equipment Supply in Huntsville, AL in 1964 and opened a second store in Nashville, IN in 1971. He was successful in equipping restaurants across the US and internationally. The business was sold to the Bodart Group when Cliff was ready to retire.

Cliff made his home in Decatur, Al and was a lover of golf, as well as a member of Burningtree Country Club. If he wasn’t at his home you could find him out on the golf course. He was also a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Elks and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Roselawn Funeral Home from 11:00am to 1:00pm. A graveside service will follow at 1:00pm at Roselawn Cemetery with Bro. Richie Thompson to officiate.

The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to Cliff’s favorite organizations: American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital or Meals on Wheels America.
