Clayton Dale Andrews – Obituary

Clayton Dale Andrews passed on to his Heavenly Home on Saturday.

Dale was born in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to Huntsville after graduating from Auburn University to work on the rocket program at Redstone Arsenal. Shortly thereafter he became a key leader and Von Braun team member in the development of the Apollo Space Program Saturn V launch vehicle and a pioneer of the Space Shuttle Program. His work history encompassed 38 years at NASA, Marshal Space Flight Center.

Dale lived for the betterment of mankind, especially his family. His life and spirit will be carried on through those that knew him as professional, hunter, fisherman and first and foremost as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Dale was preceded in his death by his parents, Clayton Andrews and Effie McGrady Andrews.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Andrews; son, Clay Andrews (Kathy); stepson, Glen Whitaker III (Ashley); grandchildren, Glen Whitaker IV, Sam Andrews, Ben Andrews, Maggie Whitaker, and Drake Whitaker; sisters, Carole Wages (Si) and Sharon Flannagan (Roy); and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation.
