Claribel Weathers Simmons, 97, died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. Claribel was born October 15, 1921 in the Eggville Community. She was the only child of Thomas Delton Weathers and Daisy Agnes Powell Weathers. On April 29, 1939 she married Milton Edward “Pee Wee” Simmons and together they had one son. In 1939, she also graduated from Saltillo High School. Claribel was a homemaker until her husband’s passing in 1974 after which she became a state employee. She was also a dedicated volunteer with Red Cross at the North Mississippi Medical Center for over 32 years.
Claribel was a talented singer and guitarist and was even in a Bluegrass Band in her younger years. She enjoyed traveling especially to Branson, Missouri. She was an amazing cook and seamstress. Claribel adored her family and church family. She was the oldest member of East Main Church of Christ where she was a member for over 50 years.
She leaves behind her son, James Edward Simmons and his wife, Sandra Weaver Simmons of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Eddie Simmons and his wife, Jeannie Simmons of Fulton, Alicia Smith and her husband, Joe Smith of Saltillo and Amanda Dickinson and her husband, Jason Dickinson of Mantachie and six great- grandchildren, Hannah Stanley, Ben Stanley, Ashton Smith, Britton Smith, Lexie Dickinson and Jacie Dickinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Milton Edward “Pee Wee” Simmons and parents, Thomas Delton Weathers and Daisy Agnes Powell Weathers.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at East Main Church of Christ.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at East Main Church of Christ with Ministers Gary Williams and Barry Kennedy officiating. Graveside services will follow at Eggville Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Simmons, Britton Smith, Jason Dickinson, Joe Smith, Jimmy Spearman, Kent Nichols, Ricky Lindsey and Jeff Mansel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wade Bryan, Mike Childers, Dennis Hallmark, William Harris, Mark Hitt, Bobby Lindley, Dean Webb and Michael Wilson.
