ATHENS-Annual Fireworks Show for according to Athens-Limestone Tourism Director Teresa Todd the show theme will be Red, White and Boom.
For the first time, the show includes synchronized music. Huntsville International Airport, City of Athens, Limestone County and Tourism are sponsoring the show. Todd said spectators will dial in on their radios to CAT Country 105.1 FM to hear the count down and music.
The show will be on July 4 at dusk, around 8:30 or 8:45, weather permitting. Athens Fire and Rescue will assist the fireworks company to monitor weather and safety conditions.
The fireworks will be staged at the Athens High School Stadium, but the stadium is not open for seating. Spectators can park in the Athens High and Athens Recreation Center parking lots or at the Sportsplex, or in designated parking areas along U.S. 31. Bring a chair or blanket for seating. Please note that the former Kmart site is closed to the public.
Athens Police will restrict access to U.S. 31 after the show. Those east of U.S. 31 will exit to the north. Those west of U.S. 31 will exit to the south.
“The show usually draws thousands of spectators, so motorists in the area need to slow down and watch for increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic,” Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said.

The City of Athens prohibits the use of fireworks inside the city limits except for permitted shows.
