Christy  Lee Mathis Christy Lee Mathis, 46, of Glen, MS lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 24, surrounded by family.
Christy was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She worked as a dental hygienist in Tennessee for 22 years and most recently worked for Magnolia Regional Health Center Business Office. Christy was a member of Glendale Baptist Church and an active leader in the Awana ministry as a Commander and teacher sharing the message of Jesus’ love through Glendale’s children’s ministry.
Christy was an avid sports fan. She was an all-star basketball player in high school and always enjoyed watching or attending college football and basketball events. She especially loved watching her niece and nephew play ball. She enjoyed running and fitness and lived an active and healthy lifestyle. She even ran a half marathon in 2012 while battling cancer and taking chemo treatments. Throughout her life, Christy most enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Whether hosting game nights, social gatherings, or a night in or out, Christy exuded a love that made each person feel important and welcome.
Christy was so much to so many people; each person who crossed paths with her was impacted by her sweet spirit. Those who knew her only briefly and those who knew her a lifetime knew the same Christy. She was a bright light; she was loved, adored, and respected. Not only was she a daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, she also embodied love, courage, strength, laughter, joy, grace, and kindness.
A beautiful soul who left an imprint on each heart and life, we are all better for having known Christy Mathis. She will be truly missed. Fly high sweet friend. We all love you.
Christy is survived by parents, Ronald and Geraldine Mathis of Glen, MS; her brother, Shawn Mathis and wife K.K. of Corinth, MS; her baby, her dog, Molly; her nephew and nieces, Sam Mathis of Corinth, MS, Aven Mathis of Corinth, MS, Clair Cook (Kyle) of Denham Springs, La, Mary Barham (Brent) of Hattiesburg, MS, Stevie Baxter (Allen) of Starkville, MS and Katherine Anton (Billy) of Hernando, MS; 10 great nieces and nephews; cousins, Julia Patterson of Panama City, FL and Jeff Patterson and wife Mary of Corinth, MS; very special lifelong friends, Amber Richardson of Ripley, MS and Vanessa Taylor of Nashville, TN; other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ralph and Mernia Mathis; her maternal grandparents, Raymond and Ruby Patterson; her uncle Jerry Patterson and her cousin Sharon Patterson.
The funeral service will be restricted to a private family service on Friday, March 27 with immediate family only. Due to the social distancing requirements and health risks to the community, there will be no visitation or open service on Friday. The family appreciates your understanding, and they are so grateful for your prayers and beautiful memories of Christy. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date once the social distancing restrictions are lifted. Pallbearers will be Chris Watkins, Chris Brooks, Michael Mann, James Newell, Joey Woodruff and Brad Mattox.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to Susan G. Komen Breast Center in honor of Christy.
