Christopher ‘Chris’ David Baumohl, 60, of Huntsville, passed away November 21, 2024. Chris was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. After graduating from Lafayette High School, he was accepted at Indiana University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. He was hired out of college by Parker Hannifin Corporation and interned at two locations before accepting a full-time position as an accountant for the Instrumentation Connectors Division in Huntsville Alabama. He would later go on to work for several local companies in the Huntsville area in which he held the title of Controller.
Early in life, Chris’s grandfather introduced Chris to guns and his father later took Chris to a gun store in Lexington to help Chris start a gun collection. Thus began Chris’s love for firearms. His passion took him to gun shows, skeet shooting events and several trips to South America and South Dakota to hunt birds. He was a Lifetime Member of the L.C. Smith Collectors Association.
Chris earned his Eagle Scout Badge shortly after completing high school. Fond memories of his Boy Scout years include camping with his father and canoe trips to Minnesota. Many fellow Scouts remain dear friends. His favorite Italian restaurant in Lexington made the cake for his Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony. Anybody who knew Chris has heard stories about the famous Lexatallia Restaurant.
Chris loved fast cars. He had the privilege of owning a 1988 Porshe 911 Targa and loved driving it. Even after it was gone, one of his favorite past times was to point out “Porshees” as he called them on any road trip he took. He made going to the Indy 500 a yearly pilgrimage for much of his early life. He was a huge Formula One racing fan long before it became so popular in the United States.
Chris was also a world traveler. He trekked with his Dad to far off places like Russia, China and Egypt. He had fond memories of the many trips, and he loved to tell stories about the adventures. If you knew him, you probably saw a picture of Chris riding a camel with the Egyptian pyramids in the background.
He loved his family and was very happy to have his son David. He loved to watch him wrestle and play football in high school. He was very proud of him when he joined the Navy. Chris never met a stranger. He would strike up a conversation with anyone standing close by. He made his first trip to South America with a group of strangers, and he returned with lifelong friends.
Chris is preceded in death by his father, Art Baumohl. He is survived by his mother, Jane Justis; his wife, Carol; son, David; sister, Susan Baumohl; and two nephews, Mason (Hannah) and Carter Lanthorn.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The service will be private.
