Christopher Allan Torgerson (known to many as Torg), 74, of Huntsville, Alabama, died at Huntsville Hospital on May 22, 2024. Chris was born in Kyoto, Japan on February 17, 1950. He traveled the world with his military family. He graduated from The Bullis School in 1968 before attending the US Military Academy Prep School. After graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1973 he began his military career. He also earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Marymount University in 1986.

 

During his 19 years of active duty, he served at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Korea, St. Paul, Minnesota, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Meyer, Fort McNair, Fort Belvoir in the Washington, DC area, Vilseck, Germany, and retired from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama in June 1992.

 

Along with his dedication to serving his country he had numerous activities he thoroughly enjoyed, including lacrosse, sailing, ship model construction, skiing, skydiving, horseback riding, and fast cars, especially his Porsche.

 

Chris is survived by his loving wife, of 44 years, Margo Dodge Torgerson; 4 siblings, Sally Lawson (Donald) of Prescott, AZ, Julie Coyer (Spencer Hopkins) of Annapolis, MD, Thomas Torgerson of Tulsa, OK, and Ande McCally (Thomas) of Washington, DC.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, COL Allan Torgerson, USA, Retired and Roberta “Bobbe” Torgerson.

 

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with Military Honors at 5:00 p.m. on June 6, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Avenue SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. A burial service will be held in the fall at the United States Military Academy at West Point, date to be determined.

 

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Hospice of North Alabama, your local hospice, or West Point Association of Graduates.
