Chris Luke Ellis, age 79, went to be with her Lord on Sunday after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Chris was a lifelong Huntsvillian and faithful member of Huntsville First United Methodist Church.
Chris graduated from Huntsville High School in 1962 where she was a good student, involved in many activities, and was the head cheerleader in 1961/62.
After graduating, Chris went to Auburn and later to the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She studied Secondary Education and graduated a year ahead of her class in 1965. Her teaching career began at Chapman Junior High where she taught 7th grade English and Social Studies. She went on teaching junior and high school for 25 years before retiring from Sparkman High School in 2003.
In 1966 she married her high school sweetheart and began raising her three wonderful children. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, wife, mother, and grandmother of six grandchildren. Chris was a lifelong member of Huntsville First United Methodist Church where she was actively involved in youth groups, numerous Bible studies, small groups and mission activities, and taught high school Sunday School.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Margie Luke, her brother, Harvey Jr. and her sister, Martharene Chandler Smith. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Jimmy; three children, Christy Alison (Bill), Mike (Angie) and Scott (Denise); and six grandchildren, Evans, Luke, Mary Ellis, Madelyn, Davidson and Michael.
Visitation with the family will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024, in the sanctuary of Huntsville First United Methodist Church, and the funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Reverends Coy Hallmark and Bill Crosby officiating. Immediately following the service, the family welcomes everyone to attend a graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery.
