Deacon Chester Auther JohnsonChester A. Johnson was born January 4, 1926, to the late Ilus Johnson and Mahala Bell Simpson Johnson.  He departed this life Tuesday September 10, 2024, at his home.

Chester accepted the gospel and confirmed his faith at an early age and united with Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, where he served faithfully on the Deacon Board, Chairman of the Trustees Board, Cemetery Committee, just to name a few.  He served the community and family with Professional Barbering for 75 years. He also served his country selflessly with great honor, dignity and respect.

He was united in holy matrimony to the late Elsie Annetta Johnson on October 4, 1949.

Chester and Annetta Johnson were happily married for 60 years.  They were blessed with Four Children:  Rolland (Sandra) Johnson- Huntsville, AL; the late Harold (Cassandra) Johnson- Tuscumbia, AL; Roslyn Teresa (Jeffie) Boddie- Muscle Shoals, AL; Darrell Johnson- Huntsville, AL; Eight Grandchildren: Tonya Johnson; Chester (Jeanine) Johnson; Ralonda (Anthony) O’Neal; Jennifer Tennille (Anton) Young; Elise (Robby) Beckham; Darrell Johnson; Shonda Boykins; Auther Perry Johnson; 14 Great Grandchildren.

Brother:  Randy (Barbara) Johnson of Portsmouth, VA.

Five brothers preceded him in death- Alfred Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Joe Johnson, and Merry Johnson.

Sister: Hannah M. Williams of Chicago, IL.

Five sisters preceded him in death- Eva Coleman, Earline Gaines, Katherine Hamilton, Sarah Frances Smith and Phyllis Johnson.

Our daddy had many relatives and friends that he loved so dearly, we could not name them all.  There are a host of special nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that he held near and dear to his heart.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church (820 W. Irvine Ave, Florence, AL 35630) with Elder William Rowell, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Florence, AL. Mr. Johnson will lie in repose two hours prior to funeral time.

Public viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
