Cheryl D. Whitfield, 58, died at her home in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 16, 2024. Cheryl was born in Memphis, TN on January 21, 1966, to the late Emmett Ross and Melberlene Brown Ross. She grew up in a lively household and moved to North Mississippi in her teenage years. She made her living working in retail and restaurants. She met her husband of 24 years, Kenneth Whitfield, while serving him coffee at the Waffle House. Cheryl was a sweet soul and had a gentle spirit about her. Everyone that knew her was blessed by her nature. She brought joy to life and those people that her path in this life crossed. She was a dedicated Christian and loved studying her Bible. She often hosted home church and Bible Study with friends and family at her home. She loved to do arts and crafts, but her passion was cooking for friends and family.
A service celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 3 PM from the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel with Bro. Tony Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until service time on Tuesday. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Kenneth Whitfield; sons; Joseph Hilliard, Rodney Hilliard, both from Houston, TX, and Jason Whitfield of Clinton, MS; sister, Wanda Grimes of Mooreville; brothers, Ervin Ross of Okolona, Ricky Ross of Nettleton, Ronnie Ross and Terry Ross, both of Saltillo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Janelle Joshlin and Donna Newcomb.
