Charlotte Alphin Cowart, 96, of Huntsville, AL passed away on May 20, 2022, with her family by her side. She was a loving and caring Southern lady who touched the lives of all who knew her, and she was dedicated to her children and family, participating in all aspects of their lives.
She was born February 28, 1926, in Birmingham, AL to James and Thelma Alphin, the third of five children. She graduated from Ensley High School and attended Florence State University, now the University of North Alabama. She married Jess R. Cowart on September 11, 1948, and they eventually moved to Huntsville, AL in 1966, making it their home for the rest of their lives. Charlotte worked for South Central Bell in Birmingham and the State Employment Service in Huntsville for many years before deciding to become a full-time mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her three children, Dana Crisson and her husband, Dwight, Kelly Reed and her husband, Andy, and David Cowart and his wife, Jennifer; her grandchildren, Rachel and Christina Crisson, and Jack, Abbie, and Owen Cowart; and her great-grandsons, Cohen and Jaxon Suggs.
Visitation will be May 23 from 5:30-7:00 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. A graveside service will be May 24 at 1:00 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to Comfort Care Hospice, who provided her with such tender care at the end of her life.
