Charlie Lee Suggs, 92, transitioned from this life on December 12, 2024, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, Decatur, AL. Mr. Suggs was born in Lawrence County, Alabama on February 7, 1932, to the late Ellis and Hattie Mae Gasaway Suggs. He was the third of six siblings and the last surviving sibling.

Mr. Suggs accepted Christ as his Lord and savior at an early age. He was a member of Town Creek No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully, attending morning worship, Sunday school, mid-week Bible study, and maintaining the church cemetery until his health began to fail.

He was married to the love of his life, Geadie Marie Freeman Suggs, for 70 years. To their union six children were born: Syrvillia, Doris, Roger, James Foney, Brenda (Lisa), and Darius.

After years of farming, Mr. Suggs, was employed by Diamond Shamrock Chemical Corp., now known as Occidental Corp., for over 36 years.

He was truly an outdoorsman. He thoroughly enjoyed grilling delicious food, working in his yard, and gardening. He was an avid gardener who loved watching his vegetables grow and harvesting them to share with family and friends. When in Decatur, he almost always had to go by the habitat store to buy screws and bolts so that he could spend countless hours in his tool shed creating his one-of-a-kind inventions.

Mr. Suggs was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Glennis Cowan, Elizabeth Cowan, Rosie Mae Freeman, and Willie Nadine Young; one brother: James P. Suggs; and two great granddaughters: Landri and Logan Petty.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 70 years, Geadie Marie Suggs; three daughters: Syrvillia Gilchrist (Freddie) of Hillsboro, AL, Doris Davis (Glenn) of Hillsboro, AL, and Brenda “Lisa” Grant (Anthony)of Madison, AL; three sons: Roger Suggs (Brenda) of Trinity, AL, James Foney Suggs (CaMonica) of Landersville, AL, and Darius Suggs (Jill) of Athens, AL; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other loved-ones.

A public viewing will be Friday, December 20, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Reynolds Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be held noon Saturday at Town Creek No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church in Landersville, AL. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral service. He will be laid to rest at the Town Creek No. 1 Baptist Church-Landersville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, and flower barriers will be granddaughters.
