  Charlie Henry Bates Profile PhotoCharlie Henry Bates, a skilled welder and pipe fitter whose hands could fashion beauty out of metal, passed away on May 23, 2024. Born on September 27, 1948, Charlie lived a life full of passion for his work and hobbies, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

In his career, Charlie’s dedication and expertise were unmatched. He approached every welding project with precision and creativity, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His love for carpentry shone through in every project he undertook, showcasing his talent for transforming raw materials into works of art. One of his favorite pastimes was crafting little airplanes from tin cans, a true testament to his inventive spirit.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charlie’s true joy came from the love and bond he shared with his family. He built not only a house but also strong foundations of love and support that will endure beyond his time with us.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Wanda Diane Lovelace Bates, his sons Charles Christopher Bates and Jerry Wayne Bates, brothers: Jerry “Pam” Bates, Jimmy “Margaret” Bates, Larry “Olivia” Bates, Joey “Tammy” Bates; as well as his sisters Betty Wallace and Nancy “Mickey” Price.

In the embrace of eternal peace, Charlie reunites with his brothers Arthur and Clifford Bates, his father Wilburn Newton Bates, and mother Hazel Walker Bates who have gone before him. Together, they watch over their family from above, guiding them with love from the heavens.
brothers: Jerry “Pam” Bates, Jimmy “Margaret” Bates, Larry “Olivia” Bates, Joey “Tammy” Bates; as well as his sisters Betty Wallace and Nancy “Mickey” Price. Their memories together will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

In every spark of the welding torch and in every detail of the houses he built, Charlie’s spirit lives on. His kindness, wisdom, and craftsmanship will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

 

Memorial service will be announced at a later time.

The family would like to thank the 4th floor nurses at North Alabama Medical Center and Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Morris, and Dr. Rodriguez.
