Charlie Franklin Smartt, age 88 of LaVergne, TN, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025. A native of Lascassas, TN, he was the son of the late Carl Davis Smartt and Ila Jackson Adams Smartt. Mr. Smartt was also preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Kate and Elijah Cresap, and his daughter-in-law, Melissa Smartt.
Mr. Smartt is survived by his wife of 70 years, Othelda Jones Smartt; son David Michael Smartt and his wife Martha Ellen of Ozark, MO; daughter, Marchetta Suzanne Hicks and her husband Dwayne of Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren, Charles Daniel Smartt, Andrew Davis Smartt, Amy Rebecca Cresap and her husband John, Matthew Dwayne Hicks and his wife Tosha, Samuel Brian Hicks, Hannah Grace Jenkins and her husband Brandon, and Nathanael Charles Hicks; three great-grandchildren, Frankie Ray Hicks, Bailey Hope Hicks and Jonah Aaron Jenkins; sisters, Judy Ann Smartt of Murfreesboro, TN and Geraldine Adams and her husband Billy Joe of Murfreesboro, TN.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday following the visitation. Matthew Hicks and Brandon Jenkins will preside. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Smartt was of the Baptist faith, a US Army veteran, a retired supervisor with Atlantic Envelope, and an avid Bluegrass musician.
