In loving memory of Charley Ledbetter, a devoted Insurance Agent at Rodgers Insurance and a skilled individual in the lawn mower repair business, we celebrate a life that was filled with passion, dedication, and kindness. Charley was born on March 20, 1932, in New Albany, MS, and peacefully passed away on May 6, 2024.
Charley Ledbetter served his country with honor in the U. S. Navy, stationed on the U.S.S. Rochester, and was recognized for his service with numerous medals including the Korean Service Medal (with 2 stars), United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and China Service Medal.
Aside from his illustrious career and military service, Charley led a fulfilling life outside of work. He was an avid hunter who found solace in pursuing deer and raccoons, a lover of fishing who appreciated the serenity of nature’s waters, and a handyman who took pride in fixing lawnmowers at his repair business. His knack for stripping copper showcased his resourcefulness and ingenuity.
Charley Ledbetter is survived by his beloved wife Trish Ledbetter, daughter Janet Mullen( Charlie Wayne Mullen), grandson Charles Mullen, brother William “Bill” Ledbetter, step-daughter Melissa Rost (Mike Rost), step-son James Steele (Andrea Steel), along with 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Catherine Bernice Bryant Ledbetter; step-daughter Kay Skelton; step-son Tim Steele, brother J L “Bud” Ledbetter; sisters Opal Merritt, Geneva Tirey, and Mary Ledbetter; as well as his parents Joseph Lawerance Ledbetter Sr. and Mittie Lee Bray Ledbetter
The visitation for Charley will be held on May 9th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany MS. A Celebration of Life will follow on May 10th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Glenfield Funeral Home where Bro. James Steele and Bro. Wells will be officiating the services with a burial service at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Blue Mountain MS from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be Isaac Steele, Ricky Barnes, Matt Heavener, Michael Rost, Josh Skelton, Rickey Roberson and Bill Pickens. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Davis, Larry Knox, Mike Rost, Charlie Mullen and Charlie Wayne Mullen.
Charley Ledbetter’s legacy of hard work, love for family, and zest for life will forever be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
