Charles Winford Elliott was born on in Lee County on Feb. 21, l929 to the late Flavious Elliott and Florence Farris Elliott, all pioneers in Lee and Itawamba County. He departed this life for his eternal home from his home in Mooreville on Friday evening, May 26, 2023. Charles lived 94 purpose filled years and made his time count among family and friends. A genial soul who quiet presence automatically exuded respect, Charles grew up in Mooreville and graduated from Mooreville High School in l947. A patriotic American, he enlisted in the U. S. Army during Korea and earned a Bronze Star and other medals for his bravery. He married Florine Pleasant Elliot and they made their home on Lakeview St. in Tupelo with daughter, Sarah and son, David for many years. He worked for over 40 years at Day Brite Lighting Company in Tupelo retiring as their Inventory Supervisor. He returned to the country after retirement and enjoyed tending his land in the Mooreville area. He and Florine bought a cabin at Mill Creek at Pickwick and enjoyed countless wonderfully spent days there with friends and family. They fished, were known for their large fish cookings and their love of water sports especially boating and skiing. Charles had one of the first high powered Mercury Ski Boats in Tupelo in the early 1960’s and taught hundreds of young people how to ski. An outdoorsman, Charles was a peace on his farm or at Pickwick. He was a longtime faithful member of the Mooreville United Methodist Church. Well acquainted with grief but solid in his faith, Charles lived to bury his parents, his wife, his brother, his daughter and his granddaughter. He was a great storyteller and loved all people equally and his living was not in vain.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Rev. Russell Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in the Ratliff Community of Itawamba County. Visitation will be from Noon-service time on Wednesday only at the funeral home. Charles is survived by his son, David Elliott of Mooreville; his grandson, Chase Elloitt and wife, Rachel of Winston-Salem, NC and three great grandchildren, Mary Elise , Nathan and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florine, his daughter, Sarah, his granddaughter, Marie and his brother, Gither Elliott.
