Charles William Sims – Obituary

CharlesCharles William Sims passed away Sunday morning, June 30, 2013, after an extended illness. He grew up in North Florence and was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, from 11-1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home with a memorial Service following at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Cornelius Sims; and his wife and mother of his son, Helene Haberhauer Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Pepper Sims; son, Mike Sims and wife, Sharon, Athens; sister, Carolyn Butler and husband, Bobby, Florence: granddaughter, Dr. Katie Sims, Athens; grandson, Jay Sims and wife, Jenny, Athens; great-grandchildren, Hudson Sims and Lily Sims, Athens; nieces, Laura Butler Manion and Julie Butler Brewer; special in-laws, Johnny and Patsy Abernathy.

Charlie enjoyed living. He was a retired electrician having worked for TVA. He also worked several years as a reserve deputy for Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Deptartment. He did volunteer work for EMA. He was an avid ham radio operator, WB4LQX, and former MSARC president.

He loved to hunt and fish near Waterloo. At home in Florence he enjoyed watching squirrels and deer play and at one time had a favorite raccoon he fed named Cookie.

When he was able, Charlie attended worship services at Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. He also enjoyed being involved with the Mitchell Hollingsworth worship service ministry.
