Charles Rodger Thompson, 78, of Florence, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at home. He was born in Conley, GA on January 3, 1946, to Arthur William Thompson and Otrell Hightower Thompson.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 1:00-2:30 p.m., at Cross Point Church of Christ, Florence. Funeral services will follow with Mark Little and Frank Mills officiating and family members sharing memories.

Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glenn, James, and Billy Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Linda Putman Thompson, of Florence, AL; sons, Jeff (Anisa) Thompson, of Rogersville, AL, Danny (Elizabeth) Thompson, of Buford, GA; and daughter, Melanie Thompson (Chris) King of Rowlett, TX; grandchildren, Alex (Kate) Thompson, Anna Thompson, Charlotte Thompson, Allie, Avery, and Ashton King.

Charles was a 1972 graduate of the International Bible College (now Heritage Christian University), masters work at Southern Christian University and received a Honorary Doctorate from Heritage Christian University in 2022. Charles was a full-time minister for over 45 years serving churches in Lithia Springs, GA, Rogersville, AL, Clarkdale, GA, Peachtree City, GA, McDonough, GA, and Tanner, AL. He traveled to several foreign countries and states for mission trips. He loved preaching and after retirement, in 2014, filled in for preaching appointments. He preached for several years at the Sunday night services at Cross Point Church of Christ. Charles loved working with the Carpenter Brothers and the Friendship Center and loved being involved in the many outreach programs at Cross Point.

Charles was blessed to serve so many wonderful churches in his ministry and loved people and the Lord. He will be missed.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann who took such excellent care of Charles these past few years, and to Dr. John Young, his surgeon.
