Charles (Pop) Preston Bownds

Pop as we called him was born in Johnson City, Texas to Richmond J. Bownds and Cleo Patrick Bownds. Pop’s parents were school principal and teacher. Pop graduated from the University of Houston with a Pharmacy degree and worked as a Pharmacist for 15 years. While proprietor of the Alvin Pharmacy, the calling for medical school took him to the Universidad Autonoma de Quadalajara in Mexico. He became a Medical Doctor and practiced 30 years as a Family Physician in Pikeville, Tennessee. He retired from his medical practice when he turned 80. He purchased a home in Decatur, Alabama to be close to his youngest grandson.

Pop passed away on Feb 10, 2021 and was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richmond and Albert, sisters Margaret and Patsy, children Joy and Steve and his wife Joyce (Honey). He is survived by sons Charles M. Bownds of Houston, Texas, John C. Bownds of Decatur, Alabama, grandchildren Clinton Nye, Brent Seelmeyer (Abi}, Adam Sliger (Belinda), Jennifer Soto, Rebecca Rosquete(Ramon) John C. Bownds Jr, plus 6 great grandchildren. Pop is now seeing patients upstairs.
