Charles Monroe MillerCharles Monroe Miller, 93, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at his home in Oxford, MS. Charles was a long-time resident of the Tula Community in Lafayette County, MS where he was affectionately known as “The Mayor” by many. Charles was a very smart man with a lot of knowledge in many areas, self-taught mostly. He loved to read, learn, and especially study the Bible. He would often be seen about town and always had an uplifting word and quick wit. He loved to garden. Last Father’s Day, his children helped him plant and enjoyed a meal and spending the day together. In his 93 years on this earth he accomplished many things, taught his children from his experiences, and offered words of wisdom. He served in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. In addition to being a veteran and certified in electrical and refrigeration, he had worked as a truck driver, a farmer, and was head of school maintenance for Lafayette County Schools.

He was married 45 years to his beloved wife, Effie Lee Howe Miller and welcomed 9 children to their family. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed.

Charles is survived by 8 children, Mary Franklin (Steve), Virginia Weaver (Andy), Betty Edington (Joey), Joe Miller, Bobbie Clayton (Mike), Billy Miller (Cheri), Linda Chappell (Mike), and Brian Miller; his sister, Mary Evelyn Tyler (Charles); 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Lee Howe Miller; his son, Charles M. Miller; and his parents, James H. and Maggie Irby Miller.

Services will be 2PM, Saturday March 16, 2024, at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Visitation will be Friday evening 5-8PM at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc and Saturday, March 16th 1PM until service time. Burial will follow in Tula Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Raines, Bobby Raines, Dylan Miller, Tate Villarreal, Devin Miller, Jeremy Franklin, and Andy Weaver.
