Funeral service for Charles K. McBee, 82, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Harold Fanning officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. McBee, who died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at his residence, was born on December 11, 1930, in Harlan, Ky., to the late Jess and Lucille Ellis McBee. Charles “Mac” McBee served in the United States Navy on the USS Dixie for four years during the Korean War. He and his family moved to Decatur from Detroit in 1964 as an employee of Kroger. He then served the people of Alabama in the Alabama Department of Revenue for 32 years and retired in Bay Minette in Baldwin County. He and his wife Elva returned to Decatur in 1998.
Mr. McBee loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed playing golf, baseball, deep sea fishing, boating, and hunting. He was a former member of Westmeade Baptist Church. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Decatur and was the past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Bay Minette. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elva Lena Cody McBee; one son, Kenneth Craig (Kim) McBee; two daughters, Desiree M. Scott of Decatur and Valerie Lynn McBee of Washington, D.C; one sister, Mildred Barr of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Tyler N. Scott of Daphne, Anna McBee of New York and McKenna McBee.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alacare Home Health and Hospice of Decatur.
