Charles Jay Fisher, loving husband and father of one child, passed away Thursday at the age of 73.
Charles was born in New York City, NY to Bernard S. and Renee (Nissim) Fisher. Charles graduated from the Bronx Science High School in 1963, received his bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University – State University of New York in 1967, received his Ph.D. from Penn State University in State College, PA in 1976, and worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Chemistry at Binghamton University – State University of New York from 1973 to 1976. Charles moved to Tullahoma, TN in 1976, where he worked as a physical chemist for 30 years at the Arnold Engineering Air Force Base. On December 14, 1979, he married Lucille “Lucy” Leona Marks and they raised one son, David Ben. In 2007, Charles and Lucy moved to Huntsville to be close to his family.
Charles loved his family and pets, advocating for higher education, and was a beloved member of the Etz Chayim Congregation. He volunteered in Israel for the Volunteers for Israel program. He enjoyed traveling around the world, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Bernard, and his mother, Renee. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; his one child, David; his daughter-in-law, Annette; his brother, Ed; sister-in-law, Jill; several nieces and nephews, Matthew, Laura, Claudia, Keith, Rhett, Seth, and Tia; and several cousins.
A graveside service will be held on December 11, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery, 202 Maple Hill St SE, Huntsville, AL 35801.
