It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles James Scalafani, in his 76th year. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on March 1, 2025. He was born on August 6, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, to Antonio and Gladys. He completed his education at East New York Vocational High School before joining the United States Air Force in 1967. On July 1, 1970, Chuck married the love of his life, Miriam Mandelowitz. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Scott and Carrie, who followed in his footsteps by joining the Air Force.
Chuck’s passion for his country and servicemen was evident throughout his 26-year career in the Air Force. His dedication to those he led and served earned respect and admiration from all who knew him. He was an incredibly passionate golfer, and the sport brought him so much joy that he followed his Air Force career with a job on the greens at Bluewater Bay Golf Course in Niceville, Florida. He spent countless weekends golfing with his close friends and his son. He also enjoyed movies and lunch dates with his wife. He didn’t need a lot in life but the love of his family and golf.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 54 years, Miriam, son Scott (Ashley), daughter Carrie (Aaron), and grandchildren Jake, Madyson, and Gracie. He is also survived by his sisters, Connie (Robert), Pat, and Toni, and many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held for Chuck in the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of North Alabama.
