Charles Hoyt Long – Obituary

charlesA celebration of life for Charles Hoyt Long, 74, of Hartselle will be Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Campbell officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Long passed away at his home on Thursday, January 8, 2015. He was born October 18, 1940, to Clifton and Mattie Lou Long. He worked at Monsanto for 35 years. After he retired, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his two grandsons whom he loved dearly. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Prior to retirement, Charles loved to fish and collected antique clocks. In his younger years, he was a member of the Mustang Club and had many show cars and won many awards. He was a hardworking man who had a great sense of humor. Charles loved God, his family and friends. He was very proud of his two grandsons.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Tristan Hoyt Sherrill, who was named after him.

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Sadie Long; his only daughter, Pam Long Sherrill of Danville; brother, Rickie Long of Locus Fork; sister, Betty Lou Campbell of Birmingham; and grandsons, Trevor Dean Sherrill and Talon Brady Sherrill, both of Danville.

Pallbearers will be Jim Doherty, Tommy Spinks, Charles Segars, Bill O’Brien, Wiley Reaves and Rassie Wallace.
