Charles Gilbert Massey, born on September 1, 1944, in Mount Hope, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, in Saraland, Alabama.
Charles was the beloved husband of Brenda Ann Rutherford Massey. Together, they shared 59 years of marriage, having wed on September 2, 1965. He was a devoted father to his two sons, Charles Bradley Massey and Alek Phillip Massey (Tracy). Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Charles Massey and Ola Maye (Thompson) Massey and a close brother-in-law Harold Rutherford. He is fondly remembered by his sisters, Sandra Massey Burch, Regina Massey Owens (Mike), and Devona Massey Thompson (Buddy).
Charles’s legacy continues through his six cherished grandchildren: Zachariah Travers, Alexis Massey Motes (Nick), Colton Travers, Madison Massey, Caroline Massey (Coleton Stapleton) and Wyatt West. He also found great joy in his two great-grandchildren, London Cole Stapleton and Annalise Marie Motes. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family who will deeply miss him.
A memorial service to honor Charles’s life will be held on January 4, 2025 (1:00 pm), at the Central Church of Christ in Saraland, Alabama where Charles was a faithful member.
