Funeral Services for Mr. Charles Gidley, age 82 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Ray Milstead officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Gidley passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the Clay County Hospital. Born in the Able community, Mr. Gidley had lived most of his life in Clay County. He worked at Madix for 16 years as a truck driver, and when he wasn’t working, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, and was an avid Alabama fan. He loved his family and grandchildren and spending time with them. Mr. Gidley was a member of Bowden Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Gidley is survived by his children: Greg Gidley (Jennifer) of Ashland and Kelly Smith (Chris) of Clairmont Springs, three grandchildren: Jeff Gidley, Reagan Smith and Ayden Gidley, one great-granddaughter, Briley Gidley, one brother, Dee Gidley of Able and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Polly Gidley; one son, Randy Gidley; two brothers: Robert and Lester Gidley; and four sisters: Maybelle Lawson, Louise Deese, Polly Burt, and Mary Lois Deese.
Rodney Milstead, Bryan Amason, Kennan Hanner, Austin Hanner, Jimmy “Bo” Smith and Chip East will serve as active pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral expenses for Charles or Randy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 10:30 A.M. until service time at 12:00 P.M.
