Charles Gary “Butch” Hill

Charles Gary “Butch” Hill, 80 of Jasper, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Walker Baptist Medical Center.  His loving wife of 37 years was at his side.

Charles graduated from Dora High School in 1961.  He was a member of the graduating class of 1966 at Jacksonville State University.  The day after graduation, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps.  Charles served as Second and First Lieutenant in the Vietnam Conflict from August 2, 1967 thru July 31, 1968.  He was in the 1st Marine Division, C Company, 1st Tanks.  While in Vietnam, he received two Purple Hearts.  In 1969, he was medically retired from the United States Marine Corps.

In 1969 after his retirement from the Marine Corps, Charles was employed by State Farm Insurance Company as an Auto Claims Adjuster.  Later he became an agent and retired this year after being with the company for 54 years.

His family would like to thank the Walker Baptist Medical Center doctors and nurses and the ICU Unit for their compassion and care.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his Parents-James Stanley Hill and Hazel Gwindolla Duncan Hill.

He is survived by his Wife-Peggy Glenn Hill; Children-Gary Walter Tate, Jr. and wife Amanda of Waukesha, WI, James Bunker Hill, Betsy Ross Hill, Virginia Lauren Morris and husband Joe; Grandchildren-Carly Gilliland, Ross Gilliland, Jakson Riley Morris and Charli Willow Morris all of Jasper.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home.  There will not be a funeral service.
