Charles Frank “Charlie” Keeton, 78, went home Jan. 4, 2016. He was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Collinwood, Tennessee, to Maynard and Lula Story Keeton, the first of ten children. His favorite hobbies were tracing his family tree with his nephew, Jonathan Keeton, and fishing.
At the age of 18, in March of 1956, he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1960. That same year he joined the U.S. Navy and served until 1964. He loved to talk about those years, and he loved serving his country.
He was also a Mason, member of Lodge No. 14, of Florence, and he was also a member of Post 1618 of the V.F.W. in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Greenview Memorial Chapel at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Mike Butler and the Rev. Jim Fiscus officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Gary Brown and his family for doing the music for his service. We would also like to thank everyone who visited us and were so good to us and offered to do anything for us. We were extremely touched by all the food, cutting the grass, the gifts, but most of all the prayers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Price Keeton; and his mother, Lula Chapel Story Keeton; and his two brothers, Roy Mack and Rex Edward.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Linda; daughter, Amanda; and one granddaughter, Amaya Jones, who was the light of his life; his sisters, Jo Ann Mathis, Helen Thigpen (U.D.), Mable Reaves (Bill) and Ethel; brothers, Leon (Betty), Calvin (Cathy) and Van; lots of nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews; and two little friends he loved, Madolyn Duncan and Millicent Rollins.
He was a good husband, daddy, Paw Paw and big brother.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Andrews, David Hellums, Anthony Arnold, Doug McCullough, Zay Jones and Zane Duncan.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Butler, Johnny Smith, Gary Brown, Harold Montgomery, Dee Spencer, Dr. Terry Hart, Matthew Askew, Manfredo Ramos and Paul Andrews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Terry Hart for not only being his doctor for 32 years but also his special friend. He thought of his two daughters Lauren and Megan as his grandchildren, too. Another special friend from Dr. Hart’s office was Alice Arnold. The family is extremely grateful for all the staff members being so nice to him.
The family would also like to thank the Hospice of North Alabama, Anna, Kelly Jo, Carol Ann, Sandy and Mark McCullough for all of your wonderful and kind deeds. May God bless all of you!
