Charles Eugene Cataldo, Jr. departed from this life suddenly on June 10, 2022, at the age of 66. He was born in Huntsville to Charles Eugene Cataldo, Sr. and JoAnn Jacks Cataldo.
Mr. Calaldo was the owner of Alabama Coin and Silver Company located in Huntsville since 1975. He bought the business at the age of 19. As a numismatist, he developed strong relationships with his customers and clients, that have lasted decades. Mr. and Mrs. Cataldo traveled the United States extensively attending coin shows. His studies and research made him renowned throughout the coin dealer community.
Later in life, he taught Numismatics and Early North American Artifacts at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Mr. Cataldo wrote two books on coins and paper money. Above all his accomplishments in business he was the proudest of being a husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bertie and Anthony Cataldo and Estel and Claude Jacks, Sr.; mother, JoAnn Jacks Cataldo; sister, Marla Ann Cassady; uncle, Claude Jacks, Jr.; and cousin, Krista Roqrk.
Survivors include his father, Charles Eugene Cataldo, Sr.; wife, Rebecca Byrd Cataldo; daughters, Shannon Marie Cataldo and Winter Lynn Welbourne Cataldo; son, Marcus Baker; brother, Steve Anthony Cataldo; sister, Angela Pullen Atherton; niece, Emma Ross Pullen; aunts, Sharon Reid and JoAnn Mitchell; cousins, Barry Mitchell, Gary Mitchell, Alexa Jacks, Tim and Vonna Jacks, Debbie Lunquist, Kelly Stough, and Lauren Cuthbertson.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mike Johnson and Pastor Wilson Byrd officiating. Entombment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens where Tim Jacks, Bobby Cowley, Walter Cowley, Chris Terry, Sonny Kriska, and Webb Giles will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that masks are worn during the visitation and services.
