Charles "Charlie" Edward Paul RosenbaumCharles Edward Paul Rosenbaum “Charlie” peacefully went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 14th. Charlie was born in 1945 in Louisville, KY, where he was a standout athlete for Valley High School and later continued his passion for basketball at Lindsey Wilson College and Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Shortly after, he was drafted into the military where he was fortunate to compete on an Olympic level for the US Army basketball and handball teams. Charlie devoted over four decades of his life to teaching and coaching. During this time, he ventured to many states and cities until his last stop and home in Pontotoc, MS, where he met the love of his life, Ernestine Rosenbaum, “Erny.” He was a beloved coach, principal, counselor, and teacher who touched countless lives by instilling teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship values in everyone he encountered.
Charlie precedes his wife, Erny, in death after having shared 52 years of marriage. He was a proud father to two daughters, Angie Warren Spencer (Lee) of Brandon, MS, and Staci Rosenbaum of Pontotoc. His legacy continues through his two daughters and the three grandchildren he raised, Adam Craig Rosenbaum (Santana) of Pontotoc, Anna Rosenbaum of Baldwyn, MS, and William Rosenbaum of Pontotoc, along with two more grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Stringer (Weston) of Ellisville, MS and Matthew Lee Spencer (Lindsey) of Katy, TX. Charlie is also survived by his five siblings, Deborah Jones of Louisville, KY, Lynn Wheatley (Kathy) of Louisville, KY, Linda Bruederle (Tim) of Louisville, KY, Timothy Wheatley of Louisville, KY, and Kathy Hall (Rick) of Crystal Springs, FL, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. Rosenbaum and David and Velma Wheatley, and one brother, Eugene Wheatley, along with one brother-in-law.
Visitation will be held for friends and family at Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc on Friday, October 18th, from 6:00-8:00 pm, with a graveside service for the family on Saturday, October 19th, at Cruse Cemetery. Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
