Charles Edward Lewis – Obituary

  Mr. Charles Edward Lewis, 87 of Florence passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 at home after a brief illness. He was a native of Palmer Tennessee and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he proudly served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nassau. During his 28 months of duty he fought in four major battles including the Islands of the Philippines, Aleutians, Guam, Gilbert and the Marshall Islands. Charles was classed as 3rd Class Boatswain Mate. Charles was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ and retired from Reynolds Metals with 42 years of service.  

   Visitation will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with entombment in Greenview Memorial Park/Love Mausoleum.  Officiating will be Mr. Lewis’ grandson, Glenn Lewis Jr. Military funeral honors will be accorded at cryptside.
   Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his wife, Edith Lewis, son, Glenn E. Lewis Sr., father, George Lewis, mother, Della Brown Lewis, and two sisters, Odell Minton and Louise Miller.
   He is survived by two daughters, Philis Smith(Larry) of Florence, Sandra Hannah(Ronnie) of Killen, daughter-in-law, Becky Lewis of Henderson, KY., brother, Carlos Lewis of Pulaski, TN., two sisters, Margaret Pirtle of Tracy City, TN. and Betty Stevens of Donnilon, FL,.grandchildren, Glenn Lewis Jr.(Holly) of Henderson, KY., Chris Turbyfill of Florence, Shannon Turbyfill (Natalie) of Colorado Springs, CO., and April Wright(Terry) of Tuscumbia, great grandchildren, Austin and Alana Wright, Noah, Logan, Cayden, Megan and Stella Turbyfill.
   Pallbearers will be Austin Wright, Terry Wright, Glenn Lewis Jr. Shannon Turbyfill, Chris Turbyfill, Noah Turbyfill, Logan Turbyfill, and Cayden Turbyfill.
