Charles Edward Lewis, age 83, of Jackson, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Charles served in the United States Air Force as a Sentry Dog Handler, from 1955 – 1958. After graduating from West Tennessee Business College in 1962, Charles became a supervisor with the State Aid Department for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, from which he retired after 44 years of service.

Charles obtained his license as a professional land surveyor in 1978 and began his business, C.E. Lewis Land Surveying, serving West Tennessee until the day of his death.

Charles was the son of Grover Lewis and Ada Shackleford Lewis, both deceased. He was 1 of 18 children, survived by brother, Bobby Lewis and sisters, Sarah Lindsey, Lennie Maness, and Martha Wilson.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Elmer Ray Lewis, John Lewis, Billy Lewis, Jack Lewis; and sisters Ann Davenport, Lettie Bell, Evelyn Eads; step-brother, Ed Lewis; step-sisters, Birdy McMinn, Brooksie Evans, Naomi Wilson.

Charles is also preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Betty Lewis. He is survived by his son, Charles Robert Lewis (Gail); grandchildren, Chad Lewis (Robin), Brandi Slaughter (Nick), Dylan Marcom (Casey); great-grandchildren, Gavin, Channing, Brent and Nolan.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
