Charles Edward Krieger, age 80, of Florence, passed away January 5, 2023. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with a rosary to follow at 8:00 p.m. A memorial Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 11, at 10:00 a.m., with burial following at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Eva Krieger; twin brother, Conrad Krieger; sister, Rosemary Ritchins; brother, Tommy Krieger; brother in law, Joe Quigley; and nephew, Pat Quigley.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Sandra Lou Freeman Krieger; children, Suzanne McGee (Todd); Charlie Krieger (Jennifer) and Freeman Krieger; grandchildren, Audrey McGee, Charleeann Krieger, Brad Krieger, Nathan Krieger, Ian McGee, Huntley Krieger (Emily), Benjamin McGee; great-grandson, Leon Krieger; siblings, William “Bill” Krieger (Judy), Jane Quigley, Howard Krieger (Karen), Richard Krieger (Brenda) and Edgar Krieger (Melissa); sisters-in-law, Mary Nell Krieger and Brenda Pierce Krieger; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charles was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Church in St. Florian. He was retired from International Paper. He loved golf, Alabama football, and was quite a talented baseball player in his younger days. He and his identical twin brother, Conrad, used to switch uniforms and substitute for each other, without the knowledge of the coach or fellow players.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Mid-Lauderdale Volunteer Fire Department and the St. Florian Police Department for their love and support through the years. A special thank you to a special friend, Joan Meyer for her love and kindness.
